Take Advantage Of Senior Services
from: Kyle BesserOnce you reach your mature years, you qualify for what many people call senior services. Senior services is a term that is widely used even though a significant portion of people don't fully understand what this term means. Senior services are usually non-profit services designed to make senior life easier as you get older and find that you can't do as much as you could do during your younger years.
Many senior services are also designed to support caregivers who can sometime feel overwhelmed with the competing needs of family and work. Many senior services are staffed with volunteers to keep costs down.
There are many different types of senior services available. The types of senior services available vary from state to state, and from city to city. Here is a list of general senior services that are available to use if you need them, as you need them.
Behavioural Health Services
The purpose of behavioural health services is to provide in-home around-the-clock mental health care and mental health care management for seniors who suffer from serious or persistent mental illness. This is a community treatment program made by a team of nurses, social workers, and psychiatrists.
Service and treatment is planned around what the senior would like, what resources the senior has at his or her disposal, and the desired result of successful treatment. In most cases, those over the age of 55 who are at risk of psychiatric hospital placement are eligible for this service. Payment is often based on a sliding fee scale. Sometimes treatment is free to those who have no ability to pay.
Senior Care Management Services
Senior care management services is a broad term used to describe the services an older adult may need in regard to daily needs. Daily needs include personal care, homemaking, security, home repairs, and transportation.
If the senior is independent enough, he or she can arrange for these services on their own. To do so just contact local companies to see what they offer as far as senior services and senior discount rates are concerned.
Those who may need help arranging these services will often get an in-home visit from a social or case worker to gather information about the person's overall situation. Based on the results of the assessment, the person is then referred to the appropriate services.
Ask your doctor who you need to contact if you require help arranging services. Sometimes senior care management services can be found in your local phone book.
Eldercare Services
Eldercare services program is designed to help companies respond to the needs of employees who are the primary caregivers to an older relative. Currently an average of one out of every three employees are responsible for the care of an older relative.
Eldercare services can be offered locally or by long distance, and helps the employee by reducing stress and absenteeism that might interfere with work. Eldercare services help caregivers locate in-home support, housing, long-term care, meal providers, and any other additional assistance an older adult may need.
Care can be a single service or a combination of special programs. Some programs that can be included in elder services include:
*Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
*Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Program
*Neurological Rehab (Stroke/Parkinsons) Programs
*Respiratory Rehab Programs
*Cardiac Rehab Programs
*Arthritis Programs
*Fall Prevention Programs
*Mobility/Reactivation Therapy Programs
*Bowel-Bladder Programs
*Skin Care/Wound Programs
*Seating, Wheelchair and Mobility Programs
*Sensory Integration Program
*Memory/Cognitive Rehab Programs
*Splinting/Bracing Programs
*Palliative Care Programs
*Resident Health and Wellness Programs
Nutrition Services
This service meets the nutritional needs of seniors or the elderly. Meals can be provided in congregate dining where people go to a hall for the food, or meals can be home delivered. The meals are nutritious and can be made to specific dietary needs. They are usually inexpensive to make them as affordable as possible to anyone on a fixed income. The most well-known nutrition services available is the Meals on Wheels program.
