The health insurance a senior has significantly affects access to health care and financial well-being of families. Seniors who are uninsured are more likely to forego doctor visits and medical treatment. Delaying or foregoing treatment or medication may lead to serious illnesses and hospitalizations for conditions that could have been avoided, such as pneumonia and uncontrolled diabetes.
The uninsured are also more likely not to be diagnosed with cancer until it has reached late stage. Death rates for the uninsured with cancer are significantly higher compared to those with health insurance.
While Medicare covers over 40 million Americans, Medicare alone is not enough to provide sufficient coverage for you or your aging family members.
To have a adequate health insurnace, a senior may have to combine several types of health insurance to cover medical needs.
