Finding Affordable Health Insurance for Senior Citizens

from: Kyle Besser

As a senior citizen, you may find yourself with a health insurance crisis. When you stop working and are no longer covered by employer's health insurance, you need health insurance more than ever before. If you are 65, Medicare covers some of your medical expenses, but there are gaps in what Medicare programs for seniors cover and you may need additional senior citizen supplemental health insurance coverage.

Medicare Programs For Seniors

Once you are 65 years old, you are eligible to enroll in Medicare programs for seniors. Medicare for seniors can include several programs:

*Medicare Part A for seniors helps cover inpatient hospital care, nursing home care, hospice care, and some home health care. Most people pay for this Medicare for seniors coverage through taxes, so they do not have to pay a deductible or monthly premium for Medicare Part A.

*Medicare Part B for seniors helps cover doctor services, outpatient hospital care, medical equipment, physical and occupational therapy and some home health care. Most people pay an annual deductible and a monthly premium for Medicare Part B.

*Medicare Part C for seniors, Medicare Advantage Plan for seniors, offers you more choices among health plans and extends your benefits.

*Medicare Part D for seniors is prescription drug coverage.

In addition, you may need MediGap coverage for seniors. MediGap is health insurance that covers expenses Medicare does not.
